Compressed Certification - Level 1 Certification

Users with a good knowledge of, and experience in, grounding and EMI studies may be eligible to take the Level 1 Certification Exam without attending the standard SES one-week training course.

For users deemed qualified, a Compressed Level 1 Certification Course may be an appropriate option. Two types of compressed courses are available: the Refresher Course and the Fast Track Course. Both include an option to submit the Level 1 Certification Exam.

The most appropriate compressed course for a given user depends on their knowledge and experience as well as, if applicable, the amount of time that has elapsed since they last attended the standard SES training course. If you believe you may be qualified to enroll in a compressed course, please communicate your interest to SES after identifying the course type and format that you believe would be most suitable for your situation. See below for details.

Fast Track Course

This course is intended for users who have not attended an SES Standard Technical Training course over the previous ten years, but who have significant experience in grounding and EMI studies.

You may register for a Fast Track course once SES has determined that you meet the prerequisites. A minimum of 5 attendees is required to schedule an event.

Fast Track course - Knowledge and experience prerequisites

If you haven’t attended an SES Standard Technical Training Course in the past ten years, but have significant experience in grounding and EMI studies because you have been regularly involved in such studies for a significant portion of your working time, it is necessary for SES to assess your knowledge level before you attempt the Level 1 Certification Exam.

Although SES recognizes that there are a significant number of qualified SES users who have not attended a Standard Training Course, SES cannot make a subjective assumption concerning the qualifications of these practitioners. The user may be qualified in many technical areas involving EMI and grounding, but may lack the appropriate expertise in one or more key technical areas. Therefore, an appropriate course is still required to ensure that all certified professionals have a satisfactory knowledge of the key topics taught by SES during its Standard Training Course. However, the workshops that would otherwise take place during such courses are not necessary for users with adequate experience using SES’s software. Therefore, a compressed course can be considered for such users wishing to pass the Level 1 Certification Exam. In order to schedule such a course and ensure that you meet the prerequisites to succeed, SES must first have sufficient evidence confirming that you are an experienced SES software user. This can be demonstrated by providing SES with evidence of your familiarity with the software, by one or more of the following means:

  • SES records showing continuous and active high-level interaction with SES’s technical support team.
  • Regular attendance at CDEGS Users’ Conference events.
  • Technical publications on EMI and grounding in peer-reviewed journals or in CDEGS Users’ Conference Proceedings.
  • A list of several engineering or research reports, of which you are the main author. SES must be authorized to review at least two of these reports and will agree to an appropriate confidentiality clause.
  • An official letter from your management confirming that approximately 50% or more of your time has been applied towards work on EMI and grounding studies for a duration of at least one year, or approximately 25% or more of your time for a duration of least two years.

Combining a Compressed Level 1 Course with the Level 2 Certification Course

Users who are able to schedule a Refresher or Fast Track course on the weekend prior to a standard Level 2 Certification Course have the opportunity to attend both courses consecutively, and thereby potentially obtain their Level 1 and the Level 2 Certifications in a single trip.

Interested users are encouraged to communicate with SES at their earliest convenience. A minimum of 4 attendees is required to schedule an event.
